Team defense and offense cause for Strikers advance

The Mile High Strikers advanced to the round of 32 in the CyberDunk Cup on day 16. If you look at the stat sheet, you should see a couple interesting things. First, and perhaps most obvious, the lack of shots by the opponent Richmond Hill Mazzz. They only challenged Shuttem "Shutters" Down fourteen times, giving the stud goalie easy means to a shut out.

This is probably due to the second interesting fact: everyone on the team registered numbers on the defensive end, either a takeaways, hits, or blocked shots. "No one took the night off in their own end," coach Stanley McTavish said proudly.

And they were all rewarded for their defensive services, for in the +/- column, everybody reads +1. The team only scored three goals, but everyone was on the ice for one. "We're a team on both ends of the ice, deep, well-rounded, balanced. Nights like these don't surprise me."

Mike Stagg started the scoring at 11:34 in the first. He took a pass from Gilbert Perrault after Brenden Morrow had stolen the puck in the defensive end. Perrault was credited with an assist.

Rio King followed up the scoring quickly with another play that started in the defensive end. HugeBeard PaulMara got down and dirty to block a shot from Konstantin Konstantinov. Vladimir King passed it up ice to his brother, who powered to the net and scored.

Seek And Destroy got the third goal for the Strikers in the third period, at 1:34. Tony Silvio laid a hard hit into the Lazar Lazarov, which caused a turn over. Bash Brother One then passed it up to Seek And Destroy, who wristed it home.

With that win, the Strikers advanced to the fourth round, which will be played on day 25. Their next opponent is the Wanganui COWz.

Too cool for Cool Runnings: Strikers Advance

Though the underdog team Cool Runnings played admirably against the Mile High Strikers in the second round of the CyberDunk Cup, the favored team was too much to handle. Goalie Shuttem "Shutters" Down posted 21 saves in the 3-0 shut out, and Vice King had two goals.

King scored his first goal at 7:12 of the first. He ripped a wrist shot past Goldberg The Goalie on a nice pass from HugeBeard PaulMara to give the Strikers a 1-0 lead. Goldberg had 40 saves in the losing effort.

In the second period, Mike Stagg won the battle of the brothers. Robbie Stagg, like Mike, plays right wing, but he ended up on the losing end of the contest. Mike, known as "Staggy" to the Strikers, scored a goal a 9:40 of the second, getting assists from Tom Cepparulo and Gilbert Perrault, and making the score 2-0.

King scored the final goal of the game at 8:35 of the third. He and his two brothers, Rio and Vladimir, cycled the puck in the offensive zone for some time before Vice took the pass in the slot and put it top shelf. The final score was 3-0.

Strikers cruise to opening round victory
The tenth day of season four marked the opening round of the CyberDunk Cup. The Mile High Strikers and the Ottawa Senators faced off in the first of a series of do-or-die games. The Strikers killed.

Gilbert Perrault opened the slaughter with a goal at 8:27 of the first period. He picked up an assist from Seek And Destroy. Defenseman Wade Redden got a powerplay goal, from Tom Cepparulo, at 11:54. The first period ended 2-0.

The Strikers were quick to add to their lead. Vice King scored at 1:20, getting assists from both of his brothers, Rio and Vladimir. That line has been unstoppable in USA Division 2 play. Cepparulo got his second assist of the game, helping out Brenden Morrow with a 10:44 goal in the second. It was 4-0 after two.

Seek and Destroy put up a tally of his own early in the third, getting at assist from HugeBeard PaulMara. Danny Heatley broke the shut out at 7:04, putting a puck past Striker goalie Shuttem Down. But it was too little, too late. Vice King and Seek And Destroy would both add another third period goal, and the Strikers would win 7-2.
